COMPLETE ROUT OF THE BIGOTS. COMPLETE VICTORY FOR THE COMMUNITY.
On May 10th, some 300+ people came out in support of queer teens and drag performers at the Danvers library. What a beautiful display of our love, solidarity and power. We deeply appreciate all the organized groups that came out, including @northshorelaborcouncil @plymouthcommunists @witchcityaction @boston_dsa @stonewall_liberation_org and others
We and the North Shore Trans Defense Network (@n.s.t.d.n) organized the counter-protest (which really became much more a celebratory rally) because we saw what happened at drag story hours in Taunton, Fall River, and elsewhere. Literal neo Nazis (NSC131, Patriot Front) protested and terrorized the kids attending (in Taunton, they even got inside).
On that day, more far right forces scoped out the event than attended. We saw the same pickup truck, motorcycle and other vehicles and individuals swing through a couple times, stop, but not get out. We were happy to see them slink back to hide under their rocks.
The few far right protesters* that did show up were clearly demoralized by the end of things… leaving well before the makeup event kicked off, or visibly upset about the lopsided turnout (as the photo below makes clear).
The turnout yesterday was beautiful and powerful. It kept the kids safe. But we know these far right goons won’t stop. That’s why we need to GET ORGANIZED. Join or affiliate with the North Shore Trans Defense Network. If you’re a socialist in the area, join the BRS.
One rally is great, but we know they’ll be back. And we have to be ready for them.
